Can You Get EMI for Interior Design in India?

Updated 18 August 2026 · D Woods Villa Interior

Yes. Most interior firms offer EMI through NBFC tie-ups, typically 6 to 24 months. No-cost EMI is not actually free; the interest is usually built into the quoted price. A personal loan is often cheaper if you can negotiate a cash discount against it.

How no-cost EMI actually works

The NBFC funding your EMI charges interest regardless. In a no-cost arrangement, the firm absorbs that cost and prices it into the quotation.

The straightforward test is to ask for a cash price. If a firm quotes ₹7 lakh on no-cost EMI and ₹6.6 lakh for outright payment, the EMI was carrying about ₹40,000 of interest. That is not dishonest and it is entirely normal, but you should know which one you are choosing.

Ask both questions in the same conversation: what is the EMI price, and what is the cash price. Firms answer this readily when asked directly.

When it does not

The payment schedule matters more than the interest rate

Whether you pay cash or by EMI, the release schedule is what protects you. Payments should be tied to completed stages, not to calendar dates:

StageShare
Design approval10 to 15%
Material procurement40 to 50%
Installation30%
After snagging10%

With EMI this needs attention, because the financier usually disburses to the firm in one or two tranches rather than in four. Make sure your agreement with the firm still ties their obligations to stages even if the money has already reached them. Otherwise you have paid in full for a project that is half done, which is exactly the position the schedule exists to prevent.

GST and what is financeable

Interior design services and manufactured furniture attract GST, and the rate differs between design fees, goods and site labour. Ask for the tax component to be shown separately in the quotation. A quotation that looks cheaper because GST has been left out is not cheaper.

Financing normally covers the full invoice including tax. It does not cover items you buy directly, such as appliances or loose furniture, unless separately financed.

Practical advice

  1. Ask for both the cash price and the EMI price before deciding.
  2. Compare the firm's EMI against a personal loan quote from your own bank.
  3. Keep the retention amount out of the financed sum if you can, so you retain leverage at handover.
  4. Confirm that stage-linked obligations survive early disbursement by the financier.
  5. Consider phasing before financing. Interest-free is hard to beat.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get EMI for interior design in India?

Yes. Most firms offer EMI through NBFC tie-ups, typically 6 to 24 months. Personal loans, credit card EMI and loan against property are alternatives, with rates from about 9 to 18 percent.

Is no-cost EMI really free?

No. The NBFC charges interest regardless, and the firm prices it into the quotation. Ask for the cash price alongside the EMI price; the difference is the interest you are actually paying.

Is a personal loan cheaper than the firm's EMI?

Often yes, if you can negotiate a cash discount against it. Compare the firm's EMI price against your own bank's personal loan rate applied to the cash price.

What payment schedule should I insist on?

Stage-linked rather than date-linked: 10 to 15 percent on design approval, 40 to 50 percent at material procurement, 30 percent at installation and 10 percent after snagging.

Should I finance or phase the work?

Phase, if you can. A kitchen and wardrobes now with ceiling and furniture next year costs nothing in interest. Finance when doing everything at once genuinely avoids doing it twice.

A word on these numbers. They are drawn from our own issued quotations. Material grade moves every one of them, which is why we name grades rather than hide them.
